Q: I have started a job search recently and feel so strange about asking people for help.

I have never really had to look for a job because every time I needed one, people I knew always gave me leads.

A: A job search will often magnify areas in your life where you need to grow.

Asking for help when looking for a job can feel awkward, but focusing on your discomfort could cause unnecessary delays in starting your job search.

Comparing yourself to those who have a job could be another factor in making you feel self-conscious.

Do your best to avoid comparisons, knowing that job searching is part of your career growth.

Job searching has a way of putting all your communication skills to the test at once.

Consider that help could come in different forms instead of job leads such as names of people, helpful websites, or information about different companies.

When most people start a job search, the tendency is to contact everyone to inform them of their job status.

Instead of informing, think about what you want to say, such as the skills you enjoy using, the types of industries or jobs that interest you the most.
